Riesling Festival- Aug 13 & 14

Cheshire Canning participated in the annual Finger Lakes Riesling Festival last weekend. While rain was a threat, the sun prevailed for most of the sale and Cheshire Canning's HoneyHeat 'Sauce', SweetHeat Pickles and SweetBeets were a hit.

DP Chutney Collective joined the Cheshire Canning table and brought the beauty of chutney's to the Finger Lakes.

Cheshire Canning was a proud sponsor of the Rochester Youth Hockey Gives Back Charity Golf Event on Sunday, August 14th. The event earned over $5000 for a child who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Cheshire Canning is looking forward to being part of this amazing cause each year.

Cheshire Canning had the pleasure of presenting PICKLED APPLES at the Williamsburg/Greenpoint Farmers Market today at McCarren Park. We chose this lovely fruit, since apples are in the height of their season (and tasty).
Please find the recipe below... which takes about 10 minutes. Enjoy and HAPPY PICKLING!

PICKLED APPLES
Ingredients: 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 tbls cloves. 5 apples (peeled and cubed)

How to: Add vinegar, sugar, water, cinnamon, cloves together and boil for 5 minutes. Add apples and let stand (1-2 minutes). Place in jar. Once cooled, place in refrigerator. Use within a week.

Use with: Sourdough Apple and Cheddar Sandwich.
Melt butter and lemon juice (brush on bread), all cheese and pickles apples (chopped) and grill.

Labor Day weekend was spent in Amagansett with Zonda and Jeri. While enjoying Long Island, drinking summer cocktails and eating the local food, we could not pass up the opportunity to pick amazing vegetables from one of the local farms… Quail Hill Farm is one of the original CSA farms in the US.

While many come to the Riesling Festival to sample the wonderful wines, they also come to taste the foods and buy the crafts of local vendors.
Even though the weather had a few downpours and breezy moments, people still traveled to the 2nd annual festival that was located near the beautiful lake in Canandaigua. Our HoneyHeat ‘Sauce’ and SweetHeat Pickles were liked by many and we are looking forward to next year!

Finger Lake Riesling Festival

The second annual Finger Lakes Riesling Festival will take place on August 14th and 15th in Canandaigua, NY. This year, those who attend the festival will be able to sample wines from more than 14 local producers. In addition to great wines, there will be live entertainment, an arts and crafts marketplace, and a farmers market with outstanding local foods.

Cheshire Canning will be participating in the annual event, sampling our signature HoneyHeat ‘Sauce’ as well as our SweetHeat Pickles. We are excited to be part of the festival, as it that takes place near the town that our cherished recipes were originated.

Large crowds gathered on a steamy Sunday to visit the forth annual UnFancy Food Show at The Bell House in Brooklyn. It was great to have another venue where small artisanal vendors can gather and chat with local foodies as well as buyers from across the US, who are interested in our small food businesses.
Cheshire Canning was excited to participate in this amazing annual event and was happy to receive a lovely response for both its signature HoneyHeat ‘Sauce’ as well as our new Bread & Butter Pickles… that will soon have a little kick of heat.
Thanks to Annaliese for organizing as well and Brooklyn Brewery, who kept us hydrated with it’s tasty beer!

Humphrey Bogart used to spend his summer vacations on Canandaigua Lake. Now that the summer is upon us, you may want to consider taking a weekend trip up north to the Finger Lake Wine Trails. The Finger Lakes is the largest United States wine producing region, outside of California, and it will be a sure thing that you will have a good time.

Located in the heart of the larger Finger Lakes geographical region, the actual viticultural area is centered around four main lakes: Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga. Cheshire Canning got its inspiration from the natural beauty upstate and we recommend a visit.

Cheshire Canning brought a bit more ‘heat’ to it’s HoneyHeat ‘Sauce’ at the Lyceum Food and Craft Market on Saturday, May 1st. We are happy to say that we received a great response and may even make hotter batches next time around, as it seems that Brooklyn has a taste for heat. We are bringing a little of the “Cat” to the big city!

Cheshire, which is a Hamlet of Canandaigua in the Finger Lake region, was our inspiration for HoneyHeat ‘’Sauce’. Using local and fresh ingredients is #1! Tomatoes are hydroponically grown and our honey comes fresh from a local bee keeper.

We began this week preparing for our next food market in Brooklyn, New York on May 1st at the Lyceum Food and Craft Market .
